Development
Goals
The Wheen Bee Foundation is committed to achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout our programs.
See below the key goals that the Wheen Bee Foundation actively supports through our work to protect bees, increase ecosystem health and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
Bee Friendly Farming
The Bee Friendly Farming program supports farmers in protecting, preserving, and promoting the health of bees and other pollinators on their land and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Australian Pollination Strategy
The Australian Pollination Strategy is the first national framework to coordinate action to protect pollinators, secure pollination services and support sustainable food production across Australia.
Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Powerful Pollinators Planting Guides
The Powerful Pollinators Planting Guides encourage the strategic planting of trees for bees and other pollinators, taking an ecosystem approach to conserving pollinator diversity. As of 2026, there are 37 planting guides available across Australia.
Bee Friendly Farming Tree Grants
The Bee Friendly Farming Tree Grants help improve ecosystems by planting pollinator-friendly trees. The Grants have helped plant 122,300 trees across five states.
Trees for Bees Community Tree Grants
Trees for Bees Community Tree Grants help community groups and organisations to increase vital habitat, providing spaces for bees to forage, live and breed. As of 2026, the program has helped 66 community groups plant 9,492 trees across seven states.
Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
Online Pollinator Stewardship Program
The Online Pollinator Stewardship Program is a science-based education program delivering online modules to build knowledge, stewardship and long-term support for managed and wild pollinators, contributing to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem health.
Centre for Bee Education
The Centre for Bee Education is a national learning hub for science-based information about bees and other pollinators. The Centre supports educators and students with curriculum-aligned learning materials to promote biodiversity and ecosystem health.
Australian Pollinator Week
Australian Pollinator Week increases awareness of Australia’s pollinators through community events including workshops, garden tours, and webinars to promote the protection of pollinators essential for food security and the environment.
World Bee Day
World Bee Day spreads awareness of the significance of bees and other pollinators for biodiversity and eco system health by holding national events at farmers’ market stalls, educational workshops and embassy events.
Green Carpenter Bee Conservation Project
The Green Carpenter Bee Conservation Project supports the development of artificial nesting substrates for the endangered Green carpenter bee contributing to SDG 15 by promoting habitat restoration, species conservation, and the prevention of biodiversity loss.
