Pollinator of the Month - website

A bear starts the buzz on new monthly series

Say hello to our first Pollinator of the Month: the Teddy bear bee, Amegilla (Asaropoda).

These fluffy pollinators aren’t just cute – they’re essential. With their distinct low-pitched hum, Teddy bear bees are experts in buzz pollination, a technique to shake pollen free from stubborn flowers.

Teddy bear bees play a vital role in pollinating many of Australia’s beautiful native plants including Hibbertia and Dianella. Talk about the “bear necessities” of pollination.

The Teddy bear bee is the first in our new Pollinator of the Month series, where we shine the spotlight on Australia’s diverse pollinators and the important role they play in food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Stay tuned each month as The Latest Buzz celebrates fascinating pollinators that keep the world blooming.

You’ll also catch them on the Wheen Bee Foundation’s Instagram and Facebook page and in The Latest Buzz.
