The giveaway will provide teachers with free Planting for Bees! Learning Kits, featuring curriculum-aligned lessons and ready-to-use resources designed for students from Early Years to Year 6.
The giveaway is supported by Beechworth Honey, Rabobank’s Rabo Community Fund and the Wheen Bee Foundation.
Wheen Bee Foundation CEO Fiona Chambers said the giveaway would help build greater awareness of pollinators from an early age.
“It’s important that the next generation understands the vital role pollinators play in our environment and food production systems,” Ms Chambers said.
“Building an understanding early helps young people recognise the value of pollinators and the role they can play in supporting them.”
Each Planting for Bees! Learning Kit includes:
- 11 one-hour lesson plans
- Worksheets and assessment templates
- Supporting videos and sound clips
- 30 bee-friendly seed packets
- 30 mini honey tasting kits
- Bee-themed picture book
- Bee-themed play props or additional activity resources
Beechworth Honey Co-Founder and Director Jodie Goldsworthy said bees were a great way to connect classroom learning with the world around students.
“Bees can open up so many conversations with kids, from where their food comes from to what’s happening in their own backyard,” Ms Goldsworthy said.
“We want students to be curious about bees and start noticing the important role they play in the world around them.”
Education Lead at Beechworth Honey Teacher Liana Beatson said the Bee Learning Kits had been designed with the practical needs of teachers in mind.
“The Learning Kit has been designed so teachers can pick it up and start using it, with the lesson plans, activities and supporting materials all there and ready to go,” Ms Beatson said.
Australian primary school teachers with a valid .edu.au email address are eligible to apply for a free Planting for Bees! Learning Kit.
The Centre for Bee Education is a collaboration between the Wheen Bee Foundation and Bee School by Beechworth Honey, providing science-based learning resources about bees and other pollinators.
