About the Project

The Australian Pollination Strategy will:

• Identify best management practices and policies for community, industry, local, state and federal government policies
• Advocate for pollinator protection across Australia, and enable actions that improve wild pollinator abundance and diversity in the landscape
• Support the development of a pollination services industry with the capacity and capability to meet the increasing demand for pollination services for agriculture and the environment
• Incorporate approaches for optimising pollination for agriculture and the environment including the use of alternative managed pollinators and augmented pollination
• Promote Integrated Pest Management to reduce the reliance on pesticide and agricultural chemicals and practices that negatively impact pollinators

The Australian Pollination Strategy will address three areas to improve pollination for associated industries and the environment including:

• Policy: addressing biodiversity, biosecurity and trade policies among others and ensuring they are optimised for pollination
• Research: defining and co-ordinating research to address threats to pollinators and making pollination more efficient
• Extension activities: supporting land managers, organisations and community groups to implement best practice strategies and techniques to optimise pollination for the benefits of agriculture and the environment simultaneously.

The Strategy will be a model of best practice, with policies aimed to optimise bees and other pollinators to leverage pollination for the benefit of the environment, biodiversity and food security.

Creating a coordinated, strategic and informed plan for Australia’s pollination supply will, in turn, lead to improved planet health and global stability.
